Organ builder Marc-Theo Schwarz has developed a mobile voicing bench that is already being used profitably by several renowned voicers. In addition to the many practical applications and refinements derived from real-world experience, such a “machine” must also pay for itself in a reasonable amount of time. This has been achieved through a well-thought-out design and small-batch production.
This mobile voicing cart offers the voicer immense advantages on-site. Test tones from the organ serve directly at the organ in its original setting as the basis for a nearly complete final voicing without the assistance of an additional staff member. Ergonomic and effective work without space constraints or awkward postures significantly facilitates the voicer’s artistic work. For major re-voicing projects on existing organs, work can be carried out on-site just as it would in the workshop, without the need to transport pipes off-site.
Many practical, field-tested details form the foundation of this “machine,” crafted from oak with the highest level of artisanal quality. The upper and lower sections can even be stowed side-by-side on a Euro pallet for space-saving transport. A separately connectable pedal chest for testing large metal pipes—and, via conduits, horizontal wooden and metal pipes as well—completes this mobile voicing chest. The remaining individual components are manageable in size and easy to transport.
